O Croton zehntneri Pax at Hoffm, é uma planta encontrada no Nordeste brasileiro, principalmente no estado do Ceará, conhecida popularmente como canela-de-cunhã, onde são utilizados como adoçantes de alimentos e bebidas, e suas folhas usadas na forma de chás e infusões para o alívio de distúrbios gastrointestinais (Craveiro et al., 1977; Craveiro et al., 1978). Segundo relatos da população local, também são utilizadas em forma de cataplasma para a cicatrização de certos tipos de lesões cutâneas. Oliveira e col. (2001) investigaram o efeito do óleo essencial do Croton zehntneri (OECz) em modelos experimentais de dor demonstrando atividade antinociceptiva indicando ações em sítios centrais, e ainda sugerindo atividade antiinflamatória (OLIVEIRA et al., 2001). Esses resultados podem indicar um efeito cicatrizante do OECz em feridas cutâneas, uma vez que a resposta inflamatória é um pré-requisito para o processo de reparo tecidual (Porto et al., 2007). Esse trabalho foi desenvolvido no laboratório de Fisiologia Experimental da Universidade Estadual do Ceará.
